On That Midnight Street

This is still one of the sweetest songs ever. It chronicles a man’s hope to fall in love again after what we assume to be a long line of disappointments. The first time I heard this song I was struck by the line, “Won’t you kiss me on that midnight street, sweep me off my feet singing ain’t this life so sweet”, My eyes welled up not just because of the sheer romanticism of the idea but that there are still romantic men out there! What a relief!

This is David Gray recorded live at the Hammersmith in London. Enjoy!
